Who is the training for?

Mental health clinicians and other professionals such as psychologists, social workers, speech pathologists, occupational therapists, mental health nurses, paediatricians, psychiatrists and registrars, working with autistic children and young people.

Who provides the training?

Dr Jennifer Harrison is consultant psychiatrist for the Alfred Child and Youth Mental Health Service’s Neurodevelopmental Stream. Her role includes work with the Developmental Assessment and Management Program and the Neuropsychiatry Clinic. Jennifer holds honorary appointments at the University of Melbourne and Monash University as well as at the Dax Centre, University of Melbourne, where she founded and manages The Dax Poetry Collection.

What does the training include?

This half day live webinar looks at attachment theory, and current knowledge about attachment in autistic children and youth. Assessment and treatment using attachment models will be addressed as well as an overview of the Parent Development Interview, a research tool that assesses parental reflective function. Key learning objectives are:

  • What is attachment?
  • Why is it important?
  • What is the difference between an attachment disorder and insecure attachment?
  • What do we know about autism and attachment?
  • Ways of supporting parent-child attachment when a child is autistic

Cancellation and No Show Policy

Registered participants who are unable to attend and notify us of this in writing prior to fourteen days before the workshop may either:

(1) cancel their registration and receive a refund of their payment minus administration fee of 20% or $40, whichever is greater;
(2) transfer their registration once to another eligible participant within the same workplace (no fee);
(3) in some circumstances may be able to transfer their registration once to an equivalent-cost ASD workshop in the same calendar year, if space is available.
Participants who cancel 14 to 2 business days before the workshop may be permitted to transfer their registration once to another eligible participant (no fee). In exceptional circumstances, please contact Mindful.
