What does the training include?

Diversity in gender identity and sexuality are a part of the natural spectrum of human diversity. This seminar will explore diversity in gender identity within a framework of healthy development, as well as considering how acceptance, support and education can be protective for young people in the LGBTIQA+SB community. Aims of this seminar include:

  • to gain confidence in discussing and exploring themes of diversity in gender identity and sexual orientation with young people.

  • to explore ways of affirming and supporting young people, and how this can be protective for their mental health and social relationships.

  • to consider how LGBTI+ young people are at increased risk of psycho-social adversity and how this may be integrated in your case formulations, including recognition of gender dysphoria.

  • to help you think broadly about supports and treatment planning with young people and their families.

A case example will be explored to help you consider how this information may be applied.

Who is the training for?

This training workshop is designed for psychologists, speech pathologists, social workers, occupational therapists, mental health nurses, teachers, headspace clinicians, paediatricians, child & adolescent psychiatrists & trainees.
