What does the training include?

School attendance has been described as a key benchmark of adaptive functioning in children and adolescence. While school refusal is often considered a semi-emergency in psychiatric settings given the lasting impact of persistent non-attendance from school.

In this seminar, school refusal will be defined and compared and contrasted with truancy, school withdrawal and school exclusion; and risk factors for school refusal will be summarised.

The assessment of school refusal is of importance in planning the correct treatment approach. Assessment tools will be presented, together with a discussion of assessment processes and issues. Consideration will also be given to an empirically based approach to intervention.
