What does the training include?

This online training aims to provide a comprehensive grounding in the complexities of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) assessment for children and adolescents. Following the training you should be able to identify autism in the clients you see and refer appropriately for further assessment.

This two-day workshop includes:

  • Exploration of integrating clinical autism assessment with neuroaffirming practice principles
  • Videos of two assessments: Preschool/School-Aged and Adolescent
  • How to take a neurodevelopmental history
  • Differential diagnosis and co-occurring mental health conditions
  • Understanding language and social communication differences
  • Understanding differences in sensory processing
  • Formulation of complex cases
  • Providing neuroaffirming assessment feedback to families
  • Guidelines for report writing.

This workshop is a prerequisite to enrolling in the ADOS-2 and ADI-R workshops offered at Mindful.

Pre-reading materials will be emailed 1-2 weeks before the workshop. This information will be assumed knowledge for the training.

What do participants say about the training?

“I really liked the discussion about neuroaffirming practice and how to balance this with the requirements to talk to the DSM-5 and funding bodies. The videos of assessments and exercises accompanying these were also brilliant!” (Oct 2024)

“Having access to videos of the diagnostic process was invaluable - it's one thing to read through a semi-structured interview sheet, and quite another to see it in practice. So grateful to the clinicians and families who consented to this.” (Mar 2024)

“The most clinically relevant & directly transferrable training I have ever done!” (Oct 2023)
