Who is the training for?

Mental health clinicians and other professionals such as psychologists, social workers, speech pathologists, occupational therapists, mental health nurses, paediatricians, headspace clinicians, psychiatrists and registrars, working with autistic children and adolescents.

Dr. Emma Sciberras: Senior Clinical Psychologist, Developmental Assessment and Management Program (DAMP) at Alfred CYMHS & Honorary research fellow, Murdoch Children’s Research Institute

Associate Professor Daryl Efron: Paediatrician, Royal Children’s Hospital & Honorary research fellow, Murdoch Children’s Research Institute

Johanna Rouse: Senior Occupational Therapist & Autism Clinician, Mindful. Jo is the former coordinator of the Orygen Neurodevelopmental stream.

Frances Saunders: Statewide Autism Coordinator & Senior Speech Pathologist, Mindful

Emily Unity: Mental health advocate. Emily is informed by their intersectional lived and living experiences in mental health, neurodivergence, LGBTIQI+ and multiculturalism.

Jade Parsons: Consultant & mental health & diversity inclusion advocate. Jade has experience of neurodivergence as an adult and a parent.

What does the training include?

This workshop will focus on Autism and ADHD in children 0 -12 and adolescents (diagnosed in childhood). This workshop will help participants to understand:

  • What is ADHD and how common is ADHD in autistic children and adolescents.
  • Key co-occurring features.
  • Overview of assessment process for ADHD in the context of autism or autism assessment.
  • Best practice supports and practical strategies for ADHD and co-occurring autism.
  • Lived experience perspectives of the diagnostic process and parenting neurodivergent children will be incorporated throughout.

Whilst this workshop does not focus on late diagnosis in adolescents or adults, current clinical challenges will also be discussed.

Cancellation and No Show Policy

Registered participants who are unable to attend and notify us of this in writing prior to fourteen days before the workshop may either:

(1) cancel their registration and receive a refund of their payment minus administration fee of 20% or $40, whichever is greater;
(2) transfer their registration once to another eligible participant within the same workplace (no fee);
(3) in some circumstances may be able to transfer their registration once to an equivalent-cost ASD workshop in the same calendar year, if space is available.
Participants who cancel 14 to 2 business days before the workshop may be permitted to transfer their registration once to another eligible participant (no fee). In exceptional circumstances, please contact Mindful.
